NATS Mission Statement

To encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.

Driven by its mission statement, NATS offers a variety of lifelong learning experiences to its members, with workshops, intern programs, master classes and conferences, all beginning at the chapter level and progressing to national events. Students of NATS members have access to one of the organization’s most widely recognized activities: Student Auditions. They also have the opportunity, along with members, to compete at a national level through the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards (NATSAA), the National Music Theater Competition (NMTC), and beginning in 2014, the National Student Auditions competition.

NATS supports the growth and enrichment of its members through the publication of Journal of Singing, a scholarly journal comprised of articles, written by distinguished experts, on all aspects of singing and the teaching of singing. Other publications include the members-only Inter Nos newsletter, which publishes twice annually (spring and fall) and the Intermezzo e-newsletter that distributes weekly.

NATS Southern Alberta

The NATS Southern Alberta is a local chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. We are an active community of over 30 singing teachers, voice professionals and students. Our chapter has the distinction of having been the first Canadian NATS chapter and of founding the very first student (SNATS) chapter. In addition to participating in national learning opportunities and competitions, our chapter hosts monthly coffee chats, annual workshops and Songfest, our annual festival.

CATSES

The Calgary Association of Teachers of Singing Endowment Society (CATSES) is a registered charity with Revenue Canada, and as such is able to provide tax receipts for your financial contributions.  Our mandate is to support local singers specifically with scholarships.

  • Annually CATSES scholarship donations are given to support local singers at the NATS Southern Alberta Songfest competition, held each spring.

  • Scholarships are given to local or provincial NATS Artist Awards (NATSAA) competition winners to help offset travel costs when they move on to the next level of competition.

  • Scholarship donations have been used to support Canadian singers who have competed in the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Association (CFMTA) Rosza Vocal Competition held in Calgary in 2004.

We are justly proud of the support that CATSES has given, over many years, to the young singers of our region. We would ask that you consider adding your support to this worthwhile cause by donating to the Endowment Society.
